Q: How do I know if I need a veil? A: If your composition has issues with surface, durability, corrosion, tooling costs, painting costs, or gelcoat vostsm veil is the answer.
Q: Which veil is right for me? A: It depends on your composite. Both your process (pultrusion, filament winding, molding, etc.) and your resin system (epoxy, vinyl, polyester, phenolic) are important. Our Selection Chart will help in these decisions. If you don't find your combination of process and resin, call us. We will do our best to match you with the proper veil.
Q: What is "A" Glass? A: A glass is the original boron-free soda lime glass with excellent acid resistance. Our glass composition and corrosion test results will give you additional information.
Q: What about corrosion? A: A glass has long been held as an excellent solution in corrosive applications, and veil adds to the over all barrier against corrosion. Please see our corrosion test results for additional information.
Q: I'm working in carbon. Can veil improve the surface of my parts? A: Getting a good surface on a carbon part often requires a fiberglass veil. Our veils provide a resin rich surface, avoiding the pitting that is so common with carbon. Our epoxy-compatible veils were designed specifically to provide a better surface for carbon and epoxy composites.
Q: What is FRP? A: FRP is Fiber Reinforced Plastic. Most composite fabricators are working in FRP. Other composite applications include: GFRP (Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic), FRG (Fiber Reinforced Gypsum), and FRF (Fiber Reinforced Foam).
Q: What about pricing? A: We offer three-tiered pricing, based on volume. Our price lists are available in square foot, square meter, and per pound.
Pricing & Ordering:
Q: What is the lead time for a domestic order? A: 2-6 weeks. Larger orders take longer to fill.
Q: What is the lead time for an international order? A: At least 8 weeks. Transportation is the defining issue for international orders. Allow at least 4 weeks transit for Europe. Allow 2 weeks transit for Canada.
Q: Is there a minimum order? A: Our minimum order is one roll.
Q: Can SI accommodate just-in-time inventory systems? A: Yes. We are happy to offer just-in-time shipments for our established customers.
Packaging & Shipping:
Q: How is SI material packaged and shipped? A: Our material is generally palleted and in plastic sleeves. It ships via the common carrier of the customers choosing. We are happy to work with you to find the packaging and shipping methods that best suit your needs, including boxing, single-roll shipments, or expedited shipping.
Q: How many rolls are on a skid? A: It depends on the material width and thickness. For example, 50 wide 10 mil would be packaged at six or eight rolls per skid, while 50 wide 20 mil would only fit four rolls. The wider and heavier the material, the fewer rolls per skid.
Q: How long are the rolls? A: It depends on the material type and thickness. For example, 10 mil Pearlveil has a roll length of approximately 1750 feet, while 30 mil Flexiveil has a roll length of approximately 1000 feet. And there will be some variability in the roll lengths even within the same material.
Q: How many square feet are on a roll? A: Take the width in inches. Divide by 12. Multiply by the length of the roll in feet. That will tell you the square footage of any given roll. For example, a 50 roll of 10 mil Pearlveil: 50 divided by 12 is 4.166. Multiply by the average length of a Pearlveil 10 mil-1750 linear feet-to get the average square feet on a roll-7292 square feet.
Q: What are the shipping terms? A: For domestic orders: FOB, Somerset, Ohio. For international orders: Ex Works, Somerset, Ohio.
Q: Can material be slit to a specific width or into sheets? A: We are happy to slit our veils and mats to the width you need. We slit from 3 to 120 wide rolls or 6 to 36 by 12 to 48 sheets. There is a surcharge for rolls slit under 40 or for special cutting, including sheets.
